What is Zacalita?
Zacalita is a sparkling mezcal margarita in a 200ml can, made by Zacal, a Michoacán mezcal brand. It's 7% ABV and made with rare Manso Sahuayo mezcal, High Fidelity triple sec, black cardamom distillate, lime and soda. A full sparkling margarita, not a margarita-flavoured drink.
What is a mezcal margarita?
A mezcal margarita is a margarita made with mezcal instead of tequila. Both spirits come from agave, but mezcal brings light smoke and more depth. Zacalita is a sparkling mezcal margarita made with Manso Sahuayo, a rare Michoacán agave.
What's the difference between a mezcal margarita and a regular margarita?
The spirit. A regular margarita uses tequila, which is made only from Blue Weber agave. A mezcal margarita uses mezcal, which can be made from many agave varieties and is roasted, which gives it a gentle smokiness and a wilder character.
What does Zacalita taste like?
Bright lime and light smoke from the Manso Sahuayo mezcal, a warm note of black cardamom through the middle, and a dry bitter-orange finish from the High Fidelity triple sec. Sparkling, dry and complex, not sweet.
Is Zacalita sweet?
No. Zacalita is a dry, sparkling margarita. The triple sec gives it a clean bitter-orange finish rather than the sugary one most canned cocktails lean on.
Is Zacalita smoky?
Lightly. The Manso Sahuayo mezcal in Zacalita is lightly smoked and triple distilled, so the smoke sits behind the lime rather than in front of it. If heavy smoke has put you off mezcal before, this is the gentler door in.
What is Zacalita's ABV?
Zacalita is 7% ABV. Strong enough to taste like a real margarita, light enough to enjoy without it taking over the night.
How many units of alcohol are in a can of Zacalita?
A 200ml can of Zacalita at 7% ABV contains 1.3 UK units of alcohol. Roughly the same as a small glass of wine.

Is Zacalita vegan and gluten free?
While our juices are made from 100% natural fruit with no added sugars or additives, lemons and limes may occasionally be coated with shellac wax. Shellac is a natural resin secreted by the lac insect and is sometimes used in the supply chain to protect fruit and reduce moisture loss. As a result, and in line with current guidance (including from the Vegetarian Society), products containing such fruit may not be considered suitable for strict vegetarian or vegan diets.

Who makes Zacalita?
Zacalita is made by Zacal, a premium mezcal brand from Sahuayo, Michoacán. The mezcal is crafted by co-founder Milton Ramón Ochoa Corona, a third-generation Maestro Mezcalero whose mezcals had never been experienced outside Sahuayo before Zacal.
Is mezcal stronger than tequila?
Not inherently. Both are typically bottled between 38% and 55% ABV. Zacalita itself is 7% ABV, a cocktail strength, because it's a finished margarita rather than a neat spirit.
